In Nigeria fried fish is best described as fish that is salted and deep fry fried mostly without coating in batter. They are served as side dish with foods like potato chips, Nigerian jollof rice, or roasted plantain (bole).

This cooking technique keeps the fish’s flaky, juicy inside while giving it a delicious texture. Fried fish is a popular food all over the world. It may be found in many different cuisines, each with its own unique blend of seasonings, coatings, and accompaniments that enhance the overall flavor.

Fried fish is a common option in seafood cuisine because of its savory flavor and pleasant crunch, which may be enjoyed either as a stand-alone dish or as part of a meal.

Is Fried fish Healthy?

Fried fish is a healthy diet and good for you when it is well prepared and consumed in moderation.

The Protein and Nutrients in fish are as follows – it’s a great source of Lean protein, omega-3 fatty acids (particularly from fatty fish like salmon or mackerel), with essential vitamins (including vitamin D and B12) and minerals (such as selenium and iodine) are all abundant in fish.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids: These good fats can promote brain function, lower inflammation, and strengthen the heart.

How Long To Fry Fish?

The exact frying time for fish differs depending on factors such as the thickness of the fish fillets, the type of fish, and the temperature of the oil.

As a general guideline, small, thin fillets may take only 3-4 minutes per side, while larger or thicker fillets might require 5-7 minutes per side.

The oil temperature is crucial, typically ranging between 350°F to 375°F (177°C to 190°C). It’s essential to monitor the cooking process closely and look for a golden-brown color and a crisp texture. Using a kitchen thermometer to check the internal temperature of the fish is also advisable if you can’t figure out by mere looking.

How to Fry Fish Perfectly

Ingredients

  • 1kg fish (Crocker fish, Salmon,  Mackerel, Titus)
  • Salt
  • Seasoning cube
  • Cayenne pepper
  • Vegetable oil

Instruction on How to Fry Fish

  1. First and foremost, ensure that your fish has been cleaned, descaled and cut into preferred sizes.
  2. Secondly, in a clean bowl, place the fish, sprinkle some salt, cayenne pepper, and seasoning cube. Mix to marinade all ingredients together.
  3. Thirdly, cover and put in the fridge, allow the fish to marinade for about 20 – 30Mins though optional. In a situation whereby you don’t have much time you can skip this process.
  4. Finally, heat up oil and deep fry the fish at least 3-5 mins on each side or until golden brown.
  5. After frying transfer it into a tray lined with paper towel this helps to absorb excess oil.

Serve and enjoy with chips, Party Jollof, Abacha (African Salad) roasted plantain (bole).
