Arepa masa are cornmeal recipe is a staple food made from ground corn commonly eating in Venezuela, Colombia, and Panama. This South-American fried cornmeal dough can be served for either breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
Cooking Arepas can be so easy especially with masarepa flour or harina pan, its fried dough that doesn’t require much ingredients; the patties are basically unleavened flat dough that is always round in shape.
Arepa or Arepas recipe is a delicious dish that can be eaten alone or stuffed with all kinds of fillings like black beans, salad, fried plantain, guacamole, roasted tofu, or whatever choice of filling you want.

How to Make Arepa Masa Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 cups Arepa flour (Precooked cornmeal)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons cooking oil

Method of Preparation
- First and foremost, in a deep bowl, combine arepa flour and salt. Then create a well in the middle and pour 2 cups of warm water. Using a spatula wooden spoon, gently incorporate the ingredients, stirring continuously until no lumps are found.
- Secondly, allow resting for like 5 – 10 minutes to hydrate properly.
- Thirdly, knead the dough for few times in that same bowl, thereafter; divide into 6-8 pieces. The next step is to roll each dough on a flat surface into a ball before you flatten it.
- Finally, in medium heat, using a nonstick skillet, heat 1 Tbsp. of oil. Gradually, place 4 Arepas into the pan, fry until golden brown then, flip to other side; and cook until both sides are golden brown.
- Lastly, remove and transfer Arepas to your wire rack. Repeat the process with the remaining 1 Tbsp. oil and the dough. At this point your food is ready.
Serve and enjoy as you split the Arepa Masa and stuff with vegetables and chicken.
