Green Smoothie on a bright Monday in Africa, especially in Nigeria, is a way of consuming enough fruits and vegetables blended as a green smoothie after eating so much carbohydrate during the Easter celebration and on a Sunday.

 In Africa and Nigeria at large has more of carbohydrate staple foods, so, the idea of green smoothie on a bright Monday is a way of reducing the intake of carbohydrate by starting the day with a simple green smoothie of your choice.

Basically, in Nigeria particularly on Sunday, rice is one staple food that most families must eat, they start the day with tea and bread for breakfast, rice and stew for lunch, and ends with soup and swallows for dinner, for instance, garri, fufu, pounded yam, semo, and few wheats.

Ugu, Pineapple, and Avocado Green Smoothie

How to make serving size for 2 is as follows

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of Ugu (fluted pumpkin leaf)
  • 1 ½ cups pineapple
  • 2 pieces of dates remove seed (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon grounded ginger
  • I tablespoon Lemon
  • 1 medium size avocado
  • 1 cup of water

Instructions

  1. First of all, wash all fruits and dice
  2. Secondly, add all fruits into a blender and blend to smooth
  3. Ensure is properly blended before pouring into a glass cup.

Serve and enjoy a sweet and delicious weight loss smoothie.

Spinach, Avocado, and Banana Green Smoothie

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of spinach
  • 1 medium size banana
  • 1 medium size avocado
  • ½ teaspoon grounded ginger
  • ½ squeezed lemon (optional)
  • ½ cup of water

Instructions

  1. Wash the fruits and dice into smaller sizes
  2. Place on a blender and grind on a high speed until smooth

Serve chill.

NOTES

Please note you can use different green fruits to make this smoothie but ensure there is a blend a leafy vegetable attached to it.

Hence, these fruits and vegetable should be taken in moderate proportion, consequently, those suffering from diabetes should choose fruits and vegetables that will not spike up their sugar level.
