Pepper steak is a delicious dish simply packed with spicy flavors and very easy to cook, this Chinese pepper steak recipe becomes tender after cooking, you can never go wrong with this recipe.

This recipe is also called pepper sauce in Nigeria; commonly serve on special occasions, parties, and in some top Nigerian restaurants.

What is Pepper Steak?

Pepper steak recipe is a classic Chinese-American dish, moreover, steak is a beef taken from the hindquarters of an animal, is typically cut into thick slices (sirloin, round or flank) and cooked either by frying or grilling.

However, for this recipe, I prefer using sirloin cut meat stuffed with red bell pepper, green bell pepper and cornstarch as a thickener.

How to cook pepper steak

Ingredients

  • 1 kg boneless sirloin beef
  • 2 large bell pepper (green and red)
  • 1 medium-size onion (finely slice)
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • ½ cup chicken stock
  • 2 table spoons cornstarch
  • 1 cup of water
  • ¼ tablespoon ginger powder
  • ½ teaspoon chili pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 teaspoon vegetable oil
  • 1 seasoning cube

Method of preparation

  1. First and foremost, wash and roughly chop your green and red bell pepper, slice the onions and set aside
  2. Secondly, heat up the sauce-pan or wok with your 2 spoons of veg oil, thereafter, add the beef into the oil, and allow resting for 30 -35 minutes before turning, cook 3 minutes or until the beef firm and almost done.
  3. Thirdly, get a bowl; pour in the chicken stock, soy sauce, and water then turn evenly ensure is well mixed after that pour it into the meat and cook for about 10 minutes and set aside.
  4. Stir fry the onions, green bell pepper, red bell pepper and pour into the beef sauce, stir and add the seasoning cube, chili pepper, ginger, garlic, and cook for 2 minutes.
  5. Dissolve the cornstarch with little water and pour into the sauce, immediately, the soup thickens adjust to preference cook for 30 seconds and remove from heat,
